6 in class today.
Time to turn the tables, part 2… we again started from the beginning of everything and I had the students that were not there Saturday teach me from the start as if I were a new person walking in… this helped them (and me) see places or things that have not quite solidified for them yet… I told them that if they find something that they cannot explain or teach to someone else, then those are the things they need to work on and try to understand better.

During this, we also worked “debugging” skills. That is, I would do something odd in the technique (to the point that things went badly), then have them figure out why things went badly… and correct it.

5 in class tonight.
There was no TKD class today, so we had the gym to ourselves. So, for the whole class period (75 min), we looked at “scenarios” – such as third part interventions (the dangers of it, when to and when not to, possibilities, etc.)… and the opposite of intervention: 2 on 1.

We also looked at improvised weapons (aka force multipliers, like a soda bottle, flashlight, short umbrella, etc.)

From there we moved on to defensive options for someone swinging a long blunt instrument at you (stick, baseball bat, golf club, pool que, etc)…

Seminar Notice

We (Doug Boyd – Boyd’s Defensive Arts LLC, Steve Bartholf and Roger Dabney – Competitive Edge Karate) will be hosting a GM Pellegrini Combat Hapkido (CH) Seminar on Saturday, August 5, 2023 in Richmond, VA – for his first seminar in Richmond, VA in over 5 years.

Note that, though he has been to Richmond, VA many times in the past, this event is at a different location, different school, with different staff.

So, please come join us for a Seminar with the CH Founder!

3 in class tonight.
Continued review after long spring break hiatus.

Focused on “react” first, don’t think.
To drive this home, we did the last 15 min using the “Combat Hapkido in Molassas”… both attacker and attacked move excuriatingly slow so the attacked can “see” what kinds of things can be done.

Speed will come later.
