Sr. Master Doug Boyd (Combat Hapkido/Taekwondo)



Sr. Master Doug Boyd was born in 1965, and raised in the Tucker, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. He was educated in the Dekalb County School System (Tucker High School 1983) and has earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Aerospace Engineering and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He has lived and worked in the Hampton Roads are of Virginia area since 1990 and has worked for Lockheed Martin, Virginia Tech, and NASA (where he has been a civil servant for more than 25 years).
Martial Arts: Professor Boyd began training in Combat Hapkido in 2005 under Grandmaster David Rivas and has continued training in and teaching Combat Hapkido for over 20 years. He has earned a 7th Dan “Senior Master” rank in that Art. He began training in Taekwondo in early 2001 under Master Brad Tinnon and has earned a 4th Dan in that Art. In addition, he is currently cross-training in the Philippine Martial Arts under Grandmaster Julius Melegrito and is currently an Associate Instructor in that system.
In addition to the above, he is a member of he World Martial Arts Alliance, was inducted in to the International Combat Hapkido Federation (ICHF) Founder’s Hall of Fame in 2022, and was in the ICHF Who’s Who in Combat Hapkido 2012 and 2019 editions.
From the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honors, he received an Excellence in Teaching Martial Arts Award in 2016, and from the World Head of Family Sokeship Council, a Master Instructor of the Year in Combat Hapkido (2023) and Outstanding Leadership Award (2019)
Professorship: In March 2025, he became one of only 18 people worldwide to be Certified as a Combat Hapkido Seminar Leader and was awarded the title of “Professor of the Art”.
Memberships:
Sr. Master Boyd is a Lifetime Member of the ICHF, a Lifetime Member of the International Spartan Hall of Warrior Society, a Member of the World Martial Arts Alliance, and a Member of the U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA).
Knighthood:
In December 2025, Sr. Master Boyd was inducted as a Knight into the Fraternal Order of the Golden Owl.
In May 2024, while attending the Spartan Hall of Warriors event in Tenerife, Spain, Sr. Master Boyd became a Knight of the Orden Ecumenico Militar de la Sangre Jesu Cristo.
Instructor Kim Chasteen (Combat Hapkido)


Instructor Kim Chasteen began training in Combat Hapkido during the early stages of COVID in 2000 at Boyd’s Defensive Arts LLC. She has earned a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Combat Hapkido.
Memberships:
Instr. Chasteen is a Lifetime Member of the ICHF and a Lifetime Member of the International Spartan Hall of Warrior Society.
Knighthood (“Damehood”):
In December 2025, Instr. Chasteen was inducted as a Dame into the Fraternal Order of the Golden Owl.
In May 2025, while attending a Spartan Hall of Warriors event in Rome, Italy, Instr. Chasteen became a Knight (Dame) of the Orden Ecumenico Militar de la Sangre Jesu Cristo.
Master Tricia Tinnon (Taekwondo)


Master Tricia Tinnon began her Taekwondo journey in 2004 alongside her son, discovering a passion that would shape her future. By 2005, as a blue belt, she stepped into her first instructor role at Langley Air Force Base, later expanding to York, Williamsburg, and Gloucester, where she served as head instructor. She quickly developed a love for teaching and mentoring students.
In 2018, Tricia earned the rank of 4th Dan Black Belt, a milestone that reflects her dedication, discipline, and commitment to the art of Taekwondo. In addition to her Taekwondo achievements, she holds a yellow belt in Combat Hapkido under the instruction of Sr. Master Doug Boyd, further expanding her martial arts expertise.
Tricia’s mission is to continue growing as a martial artist while sharing her knowledge and passion with her students. She believes in fostering confidence, respect, and perseverance in every class, inspiring others to reach their full potential both on and off the mat.
