Haven’t posted in a while, so here’s the latest from tonight:
4 in class tonight… it was cold in the gym to start, so we warmed up with a few punch drills… then, because everyone is a different belt, we did a “Conga line” so everyone got to do techniques against everyone else… I even got to join in a do som random techniques, too!

2 in class today… me and a new student (her 3rd class)… We reviewed the material she has had so far – breakaways, 3 closed strikes, 3 kicks… then we adapted those to sitting… then we adapted those to deflecting a punch before a breakaway then after a breakaway… finished the class with an introduction to the first 2 takedowns.

2 in class today… me and a red belt.
We started with a warm up practicing with escrema. We ran through all the same side wrist grab breakaways. Then, went back to those again with the opponent throwing a punch after the breakaway. Then, went back through them again with the opponent throwing a punch, the defender deflecting the punch, then throwing a punch of their own. We spent the last 15 minutes of class going over scenarios that the student made up.
Based on those scenarios, it seems that a trend in schools is now for someone to approach you, get in a fighting stance with closed fists and tell you to “square-up”… and start a fight. We talked about ways to deal with that.

6 in class tonight… 1 white, 1 blue, 1 brown, 2 red belts… for the 1st third of the class, started with everyone doing each of their techniques 3x against everyone else. For the next 30 min, split into groups of 2 and 3 to continue repetitions. For the last 5 min of class, briefly worked in “Don’t get hit.”

Illness seems to be running around, so only 2 in class today. We warmed up with some PMAA single and double stick work, then moved on to Combat Hapkido. Today, Mike had an excellent test to progress from Purple Belt to Blue Belt. Others are getting ready to test, but were not able to attend today. Hopefully, everyone recovers quickly.
